A strong earthquake rumbled in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday and was felt across the southeastern United States, the U.S. Geological Service said.

The quake, with a magnitude of 6.0, came from about 6.2 miles (10km) below the Gulf surface, about 250 miles south-southwest of Apalachicola, Florida.

The quake, which hit at 10:56 a.m. EDT (1456 GMT), was felt in parts of Florida, Georgia and Alabama. There were no reports of damage or casualties.

The USGS said there was no danger of a tsunami.

Checking in!!

Fortunately we were on the east coast of Florida at my daughter's in Melbourne again this weekend. Have only got back to Tampa at 2:30 pm. Didn't feel a thing!!! Nothing at home shows that there was any movement either. Thank the Lord! wonderful news that it didn't trigger a Tsunami.

We did see the Atlantis launch yesterday though and that was a real rumble on the ground, it's quite spectacular to watch.
