DaCruzNut
I think many iof us have taken kids out of school for a few days to vacation, whether a cruise or otherwise. I was once faced with a similar situation; a 'friend' gave me a hard time about my sons losing a few days. He told me, in no uncertain terms, that he would never take his children out of class for a vacation. My answer, "Luckily, unlike some other children, my boys are intelligent enough to lose a few days without falling behind."
JoeyandDavid
Another way to look at it as a Real Life field trip...
avie
Been there -- done that!!! Much to the chagrin of a few teachers, we took our two children on a cruise to Alaska. The cruise was at the beginning of the school year. We did suggest that the teachers give some guidance as to the assignments that the kids would miss. Armed with text books, etc, we boarded the ship. During the course of the cruise, the kids did devote some time to keeping up with the work. Additionally, one of the members of the band (a high school math teacher from NY) became interested, and we had one of the best tutors possible!!!Incidentally, the experience of the trip to Alaska far exceeded the few missed days. (Yes, despite the few missed days, they both did extremely well in school! Avie

sailingrose
All this for 4 days????? I agree with Longboysfan, who needs friends like that. I never took my kids out of school for vacation but if I had to for a few days I would have. As long as they get their work done the education that cruising provides is probably better than they would get in school. Both my children have often written papers on the experiences they have had aboard a ship. Go for it and don't worry!

Mebert
lilrosie, The cruise and visits to different countries is education in itself. I don't think you're terrible at all. You've made a major effort to get the necessary work from your children's teachers. You stop worrying and enjoy yourself with your family. JoeyandDavid
Lets not be too hard on the "Friends" I want to believe they are thinking of the children....but are not looking at the positives only a very narrow view of missing "STRUCTURED education" In most instances I am sure they are very nice people other Wise..Rosie only attracts nice people in the first place... hazelson
I agree - travel is an education in itself - especially when you are making it part of their school work. They will have so much to tell their classmates about when they return. Those who are saying you shouldn't are just GREEN WITH ENVY because they aren't crusing with you. YOU GO GIRL! and have a great time ......
