sailingrose
I like the midsize ships, lots to do but not overrun with people. I love to get to know the crew and on the larger ships it's hard. Also way too many little kids on the big ships, we sailed one time with 1400 darlings. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind kids (I have them) but that's too many. Service also is much better on a smaller ship in our opinion. We travel on the larger ships (Mariner of the Seas) because it's close to home but if a ship less than 2000 people was at Port Canaveral we'd be aboard it. Spikesgirl
We prefer the 750-1500 size of ship. It's easier to negotiate around, there's not the sense of being just one nameless face in a sea of nameless faces. We've been on the mega ships and we always head back to the small ones first chance we get. Charlie
Peddler
Oh don't get me wrong, we are not party folks either and I have never sailed on an under 1500 pax ship. The smallest was the Ecstasy with a ratio of 34.4 and the Rhapsody with a ratio of 39.2. The Rhapsody seemed as though it had a lot more elbow room. We are booked on the Voyager and the Conquest and I'll have to see about elbow room or a sardine can. LOL
boba
I like the bigger ships. Not a rock climber or surfer but love people watching.
KeithnRita
We voted 750-1,
JohnG
My two favorites were Star Clipper with 284 passenges...and no stabilizers, and Oceania Nautica with 700 passengers. Both were open seating dining. We've been on everthing from the biggest (Freedom of the Seas) down to these in our 31 cruises and for us...smaller is better. We aren't looking for activities either. And days at sea are nice. Sun, balcony, reading, cocktails and a late dinner are what we look for. But, as I TA, I have to keep trying different ships and itineraries.....necessary research after all
Joanandjoe
We're glad we're no longer the only small ship fans on this thread.
PJnVA
We did the Freedom of the Seas, my hubby loves the big bigger biggest of ships. It was really really big but surprisingly the crowds were not bad at all. I thought the crowds on the Conquest were worse. Me I prefer the smaller ships around 1000 - 1500 passengers. rogue
I like the bigger ships. Just because they have all those things like the rock climbing and surfing, it doesn't mean that you can't find a nice quiet spot in the sun if that's what you want. It just gives you more choices. I've been on both medium and large ships (no small ones) and have found the medium ships had a more crowded feeling than the larger ships. That may just be on the ones I've been on, but that was the feeling I got. Also, the time of year and the itinerary have something to do with the feel of the ship. For example, an Alaska cruise tends to be much less of a party cruise than a Caribbean cruise. Also, cruising in May or October cuts out practically all of the kids on the ship. To tell the truth, I would cruise on any of them, but I would prefer larger.
