Joanandjoe
We've had to cancel two cruises after our initial deposit (one due to illness and one because we changed to a better cruise), and almost had to cancel our last one due to my appendectomy 5 days before we were scheduled to leave. We'll probably have to cancel our next one as well, this time due to Joe's company. That would make three cancellations, for three very different reasons. Has anyone else had to cancel a cruise? If so, for what reasons, and did you rebook? Our cancellations and possible cancellation: November, 2002. Cancelled 7 day Caribbean cruise on the Celebrity Horizon due to a kidney stone. We took a similar cruise on the Horizon, but for 10 days, in November, 2003. November, 2004. We cancelled a 10 day Caribbean cruise on the HAL Volendam so we could take a two week B2B in the Med. on the Wind Surf. May 27, 2008. 90% chance that we'll cancel our 8 day Regent Seven Seas Mariner Alaska cruise, because we won't know, when penalties kick in late this month, whether Joe's office will allow him to go (and assume they won't). Despite the cancellations, our last five vacations, and eight of our last ten, have been cruises.

RNSANE
So far, it hasn't happened. I went on one Alaska cruise with my kidney stones acting up. I had my Vicodin with me - and, when we got an invitation to dine with the captain the next day, I drank gallons of water for the next 24 hours, stayed in the cabin and took Vicodin for the next twelve hours and must have passed it...felt fine by the time the captain's party rolled around. I didn't go to the ship's doctor since I knew what it was and I was afraid they would make me leave the ship.
Joanandjoe
Brave woman, Carmen. Since neither of us is a nurse, we wouldn't have known what medicine to take, and wouldn't have taken the travel risk. My stone was too big to pass, and the operation to remove it left me too sore to be able to travel. Joe BTW, Joey, in effect we rebooked the Volendam cruise. Our Noordam cruise in November, 2006 had almost the same ports as the Volendam cruise.
elfed
So very sorry to hear of your cancelled cruises. It is so disappointing-I know because it happened to us 2 years ago. We were booked on the Queen Mary 2 out of New York for a 10 day cruise. This is a ship I consider the best on the high seas so needless to say I was counting the days to our departure date. Sadly my mother in law was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer 6 months prior to our departure which was in early February. Fortunately we had taken out full insurance and this resulted in a full refund once the Cunard's insurance company had received all the medical proof of my MIL's condition. She passed away 3 weeks after the scheduled departure date. Regards, James.
Shari2
We just had to cancel our group cruise this September since my mom had a massive heart attack. She died within two weeks. We were scheduled for a back-to-back on the Carnival Liberty. This would have been our ninth cruise, but the first one ever to be canceled. KeithnRita
We booked a cruise late last January for a mid Sept cruise. When we decided to build our house in March we canceled since the initial move in time was going to be the same time as the cruise.
rogue
We've never had to totally cancel a cruise as yet. We have cancelled in oder to make changes. Sometimes I drive our TA nuts with the changes. Just because we chose a cruise, it doesn't mean I don't keep on looking to find something better. Rat
I've probably cancelled over 10 cruises to date. That's the problem when I book so far in advance!
