  1. We just got back from a cruise on the Conquest. There was toothpaste, lotion, shaving cream and tea bags that I remember. Last year on the Elation there was a lot more. Sewut
  2. I just got back from the Conquest and we had a super wonderful time. I posted my review. I don't know how long it takes before you can view it. Now I have PCD. I need to book another cruise. Sewut
  3. Thanks everyone! We leave tonight on a chartered bus. We'll be riding all night, 12 hours, to Galveston. I hope I can get some sleep. I don't want to waste cruise time sleeping! We're tagalongs on a group cruise, so we don't know anybody on the bus yet. Maybe they'll want to sleep too. Warm weather here we come! Sewut
  4. ANDREWDCSTX, My husband and I will be sailing the Conquest out of Galveston the day after tomorrow. Anything in particular that you wanted to know? Sewut
  5. BORED? No I'm not bored! I have 3 grandchildren and one dog visiting here creating all sorts of bedlam. Not to mention that I am out of my mind with excitment because my cruise is just 4 days, 7 hours, 19 minutes and 44 seconds away!!!!!!!!! I can't wait. I'm going on a cruise! I'm going on a cruise! Sewut
  6. Just two weeks from today and we'll be on the Conquest. I can't wait. I'm mostly done with packing and raring to go. Sewut
  7. I'm wondering, at Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica, do you park at the bottom and climb up then walk down or vice versa? Sewut 24 days and counting
  8. I still have lotsa time. Maybe I'll run into it again. I just wonder what that attachment was supposed to be. Sewut
  9. I recently read on one of the boards about an email from Carnival in response to a testimonial letter. I can't find it on the boards now. The idea was that you sent a complimentary email to Carnival and they send you an email telling you to call a number when you are 45 days out from a cruise and they will give you a choice of cabin gifts. Does anyone know where this post was? I tried it and received an email from Carnival thanking me for the testimonial and an attachment that was just a picture of the Carnival logo. I looked like it could be a letterhead, but that was all there was to it. Any suggestions? Sewut
  10. Hamster, I've lived in Kodiak, Juneau and Nikiski. Kodiak was courtesy of Uncle Sam. I loved it there, had some great experiences.
  11. Thanks Jeff My number of posts seems to be stuck on 45. The last 3 posts have been 45. I'll never get an upgrade at this rate. It's so dark in this interior cabin. Sewut
  12. Forgot some things. binoculars (you better each have your own pair) go to Bullwinkle's Pizza Parlor in Juneau, they used to have the best pizza Our picture window used to frame the Mendenhall Glacier. It was beautiful. Now I'm getting homesick. Sewut
  13. Welcome Julie! Our first cruise was for our 25th anniversary too. You'll be hooked on cruising. We haven't done an Alaska cruise yet, but it's on our list. We lived in Alaska and our son lives there now. Don't forget a warm hat and gloves, and raingear. Sewut
  14. I need some advice about water shoes for Dunn's River Falls. We have 3 kinds and I don't know which ones would be best. We have the ones with the thin rubber bottoms with knit top, sometimes called Aqua Socks, some that are made more like tennis shoes with rubber bottoms and speed laced tops and some that are kind of in between the two, heavier than the Aqua Socks, but lighter than the others with a little stiffer sole. Sewut
  15. How early do you book shore excursions and fill out your online boarding pass? I did mine at 101 days. Am I being a little too eager? Sewut
  16. 214 + our 2 = 216 Sewut 106 days until #3
  17. Thanks everyone for all your info. Sewut
  18. My husband and I tried snorkeling on our cruise last January. We had our own equipment that I had bought on clearance at a sporting goods store. It probably wasn't the best of fit, but for starting out, it worked for us. I'm sure there will be others who can give you better advice on that. My husband didn't want to take the fins ashore because they stuck out of our backpack. We later regretted that. We also didn't have vests and we have bought some now for our upcoming cruise. We also got a backpack designed for snorkel gear. We went to the park in Cozumel, but couldn't go very far from shore without the fins and vests. The fish were small and it was like swimming in an aquarium. We are doing Stingray City and the Coral Gardens next cruise and we are looking forward to it. We'll try Cozumel again too, but this time we'll take our fins ashore. You can rent gear on the ship, I'm sure they must sanitize it. As far as how to do it, maybe someone with more experience can tell you better than I can. Just don't be afraid to try it, it's fun and don't forget an underwater camera! Sewut
  19. My husband is a veteran and a Carnival Personal Vacation Planner told me today that veterans can get a discount on cruises. I had though it was just current military personnel. We are booked on a group cruise and she said the military discount could beat it. Has anyone used it? How much of a discount was it? Sewut
  20. I pack our things in two suitcases and a garment bag. I put a swimsuit for each of us in each bag and one apiece in the carryon. I also spit up outfits between the two suitcases. I pay attention to what the clothes are intended for. It wouldn't help much if he had all dress clothes and I had only shorts and t shirts. The garment bag has the formalwear. If we lost that, we'd be in trouble. We drive down to Galveston and avoid flying, so that helps avoid lost luggage.
  21. My husband wears the tux that I got him on eBay and he has two cummebund/bowtie set and a vest to change the look. I wear my mother of the bride/groom dresses. I'd never wear them otherwise. Sewut
  22. I bought my husband's tux on eBay. The whole thing was about $50. He looks very good in it. We had pictures taken on formal nights and I bought them all. I wore the mother of the bride/groom dresses from my kids' weddings. I like dressing up, it's part of being on a cruise to us. We eat all our evening meals in the dining room. Sewut
  23. If you want to get him a tux, try eBay. There are a lot on there, I guess for kids that compete in pagents and such. I bought my husband a tux for our last cruise for $50 and that includes formal shirt, tie and cummerbund. Sewut
  24. My husband and I booked the dolphins in Cozumel and the cave tubing in Belize with Shoretrips.com last January. We were very pleased with both tours. We plan to use them again on our cruise in February. Sewut
  25. I've lived in Juneau, Kodiak and Nikiski. We used to say there are only 3 seansons in Alaska, winter, last winter and next winter. It's not that bad, but I would certainly bring rainwear where you are going. A rainsuit that was large enough to wear a jacket under would be a good idea, IMO Sewut
