sequin or cocktail dress?

I will be on the Carnival Fascanation on July 25 - 29 and this is also my first cruise. I will be traveling with my boyfriend. Here is the question. I have a black and red sequin, knee lenght dress, and a nice dressy black dress to wear to the formal night on board. I am wondering what kind of dress I should wear? The sequin dress is very pretty, but so is the black one. I am not for sure which one other people wear to this. I don't want to 'stand out' if I don't fit in the crowd. Could anyone answer this for me?

Thanks,

Sunshineforblue

We've sailed the Fascination several times but we've always done the 3 nights. The crowd was pretty casual. Of course, there are those that do dress up so you should do whatever you'd like. I would go with the black dress . You can never go wrong with that. You might feel a bit overdressed in the sequins but if you don't mind, just go for it. Then again, maybe the 4 night is not as casual as the 3 night. I just don't know.Carnival does cater to a casual crowd and many people do put casual clothing on right after dinner. Anyway, sunhineforblue, it's your cruise, so just do what makes you feel good and don't worry about it.

Also, make sure you bring some kind of cover up for the evenings. For me, the ship feels very cold in certain spots so I always bring something I can put on over my outfits that are sleeveless.

Hi sunshineforblue...

I agree with Cheryl. You can't go wrong with the black. I always love color, and I don't get a chance to dress up very often, so I usually bring a black, and a glittery colored one, but if you only have one formal night, I would wear whatever makes you feel the prettiest.

On my last cruise we had three formal nights, but it was 15 nights, so, I brought a black with sheer sleeves, and a royal blue glittery one, and it was a week before Christmas, so I brought a light velvet cranberry colored dress that had a matching jacket with glitter. This was on Celebrity, though, and they are a little more dressy than some lines.

I think Cheryl's advice for the 4 night cruise is excellent. Carnival is a little more casual, and the shorter cruises are also a bit more casual, so if you can't decide...wear the black, but if the sequined one makes you feel prettier...I would wear it!

Hi Sunshineforblue

We did a 4 night Cruise on RCI, there were woman in formal gowns they were beautiful..we also had men in Tux's at our table..but we also had guys in black jeans and hats...so its all what makes you feel the best..

if your getting pics done and you may not wear a certain dress again or for a long time and want a picture of yourself in it...that may help you decide..

HTH

The black dress, Darling, definately! Carnival is much more casual than the other lines and you'll feel overdressed in the sequins. Save the more formal gown for Celebrity or Princess! In fact, I've stopped taking a tux on Carnival and only take a dark suit, or sport jacket.

I'd go with the more comfortable one, also taking the shoes into consideration. (I learned this one the hard way.)

I agree with the others that you will stand out less in the black dress.
