  2. Hi Ann, I can't remember if the porter had the ships ID or a badge but I do remember that it was clear who would be sorting our bags out. We didn't have official tags as coming from the UK they didn't send any over so our porter went & got us some & re did them for us so we gave him $5 (we had 2 large cases)
  3. Bon Voyage!!! Hope you have a great trip you will have to let us know what the destinations were like as, again, those are not ports that I have visited...
  4. WELCOME Queenofsky There are loads of Cruise Crazies that have visited Jamaica/Cayman islands whom, I am sure, would be happy to try to answer any questions.... What type of things do you think you would like to do on these islands? and do you prefer to get your excursions booked via RCCL or independantly? ask away & we will try to help.

  15. Hi Jacketwatch, From the info I can find the typical weather for July & Aug seem to be almost identical?? so if its a bit of a saving I wouldn't hesitate to go for the August sailing (i dont know if this is the type of ship that would attract more famillies during the school holidays or not though?) Looks like June is usually around 29-30 degrees & July and Aug shows approx 28degrees so not much in it at all? Looks a nice itinerary though!!
  16. BY heck Joey you must have been reading that as I was typing it!! haha glad I can be of assistance.. that should read guide by the way not guise!! In Barcelona there are lots of little Tapas bars which have counters which display a veriety of food. What you usually do is order either a mix of tapas or a plate of one type. You usually have a nice chilled beer (or whatever your drinking) with a plate of, say for example, Chicken Wings but they have loads of different dishes but most are eaten with fingers - kinda like nibbles (their version of cocktails & canapes - some tapas bars provide olives or cheese as a complimentary tapa) - these bars are busy throughout the day and night as most of the Catalunians tend to eat quite late at night. Barcelona is quite good for this as a lot of people speak english & can advise you what the particular item is before eating it as they do use a lot of sea food & garlic in their cooking!!
  17. Hi Joey, I havn't been to Venice as yet but have done weekend breaks in Barcelona. Barcelona's easy to get round as it has a very good Metro system so it isn't a major problem to get to see all the sights, if you want to be central you need to be staying on/near the Rambles the 3 star and below hotels are very basic so if your used to a little luxury you HAVE to go for 4 star or above. We stayed in the 4 star Gran Hotel Barcino on Jaume I - one of the side streets off La Ramlas in the Gothic quarter. This was a fairly nice hotel (not that I spent much time in it!!) but any of the H10 group or any 4 star + in the Gothic Quarter/La Ramblas/Catalunya Place or close to Port Vell would see you in a central position for sight seeing. Gaudi's Sagrada Familia is about 20-30 minutes walk away from most hotels so easiest just to jump on the metro to see that but there is a nice Tapas bar just across the street from the cathederal. www.barcelona-tourist-guise.com has all of the hotels listed in star order with links to the hotel details. Hope this helps. Karen
  18. Hi Jim, BIG WELCOME to Cruise Crazies glad you've jumped right in.. Good topic this one & everyone has their own oppinion (quite rightly so otherwise we may as well all be sheep!) My personal opinion is that on casual nights jeans are not a problem at all but I think I would feel out of place on a formal night as the whole ambiance of the night comes across as everyone making a big effort & helps towards the whole cruise experience - but then again if someone wanted to wear jeans then there is always alternative dining options to consider as well.. I dont think someone would "get away" with jeans on formal night on, say, one of Cunards ships but then we all know Carnival, NCL, RCCL etc etc are just a bit more casual and thats one of the reasons why we book them. p.s. nice picture of you both.. Karen
  19. Hi Joey & David, Thanks for taking the time to post the review. Sorry to hear about missing out Barbados, a few of my colleagues have said the same about St Thomas with the change of attitude in recent years I am sure their attitude would change back if it was taken off the Cruise itineraries!! Karen
